We've appointed Joanna Lane as Interim CEO for our business in Australia

  • Lane remains an Executive Director for our Australia business and previously held senior roles at Okcoin, Ernst & Young and Goldman Sachs

  • Since launching our crypto exchange services in Australia in May 2024, we have tripled our customer base in the country and emerged as a key player in the local market

Today we are proud to announce the appointment of Joanna Lane as Interim CEO for OKX Australia.

In her role, Lane will oversee the continued development of products and services tailored to meet the needs of Australian customers. She will also manage our growth in Australia. Jamie Kennedy, who had served as Australia GM, has moved on from OKX Australia business.

Lane has 20 years of experience across the finance and crypto sectors in a range of senior management positions. Before taking on the Interim CEO position, she served as Executive Director for the OKX Australia business, contributing to governance and team growth. Previously, she worked at Okcoin first as Deputy Chief Compliance Officer and subsequently as Deputy General Counsel, in the legal and compliance departments respectively. Before joining the crypto industry, Lane held leadership positions at Ernst & Young in Oslo, Norway, and Goldman Sachs in New York. Lane is admitted to the State Bar in New York, holds a JD from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and a bachelor's degree from Drew University.

OKX Australia Interim CEO Joanna Lane said: "I'm proud to lead this incredibly talented team in Australia on an interim basis as we establish ourselves as a new alternative crypto exchange for Australians who value security, transparency and ease-of-use. I plan to leverage my background in compliance and good governance to build trust, while empowering the team to continue to develop the best product possible for our customers."

In Australia, we offer spot (buy & sell) trading, which is available for all customers, as well as derivatives trading, which is available for verified wholesale clients. In August, we further enhanced our local offering with the introduction of dedicated AUD trading pairs, which provides access to a vast range of crypto spot pairs and 265 tokens including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and Tether (USDT). Our customers in Australia can deposit and withdraw AUD via most Australian banks.

Last month, we served as Gold Sponsor of Australia Crypto Convention 2024 and hosted the Australia edition of our Ordinals World Tour. The success of our Australian operations was recognised at the WeMoney Cryptocurrency Awards in July 2024, where we secured five prestigious awards, including "Cryptocurrency Exchange of the Year" and "Best for Professional Investors - Cryptocurrency."

In line with our dedication to transparency, we were among the first in the crypto industry to publish monthly Proof of Reserves to validate the full backing of user funds held on our platform. Using open-source verification tools, customers can independently confirm that their assets are backed by our reserves. Since launching Proof of Reserves in late 2022, we have published 25 consecutive monthly snapshots while driving the industry's adoption of new and improved reporting standards.

*Derivatives and margin related products and services will be provided to verified wholesale clients only by OKX Australia Financial Pty Ltd (AFSL 379035), provided that they meet the definition of a wholesale client as set out in the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
